Hands-on Clients That Rock
I had a meeting yesterday with Dean Gerrie, a prominent local designer with a portfolio that makes mine looks insignificant. Dean is a long time family friend, and based on my mother’s recommendation (she’s my biggest evangelist), I’m helping Dean design a fairly in-depth website for his design business.
Most designers might dread working with another designer on a project, but I’m relishing the idea. Dean has already done the design, a subtle and clean layout that I totally get, and he’s already figured out a lot of the legwork including a complete sitemap so I already know how much work is ahead. He’s also come into the project with a realistic expectation of what can be handled now and what can wait for the next phase.
Dean’s extremely meticulous with his design with a strong emphasis on the grid. This might normally spell out a nightmare client always looking over my shoulder, but I think this might be the easiest thing I’ve ever done. A client who knows exactly what he wants but is also reasonable and open to new ideas and comes to the table with his elegant ready for implementation seems like a dream. Of course time will tell how well we work together, but I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to not only doing the site, but also learning from a designer that I respect and admire.
I’ll keep you posted on the developments.
